RIS TECH Forum Online Preview 1: Southeast University and China Mobile:The reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided millimeter wave communications system
Introduction: The reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided millimeter wave communications system shown in this video is jointly developed by Southeast University and China Mobile. The RIS can direct the reflected beam to dynamically track the movement of the UE. In the demo, both AP and RIS are in fixed locations, while the position of UE is changing. When RIS is switched off, the received signal quality gets worse as UE moves and the average received power is about -80 dBm. When RIS is switched on, the received signal quality can be maintained at a good level as UE moves and the average received power is about -64 dBm.

RIS TECH Forum Online Preview 3:China Unicom:RIS Work
Introduction: China Unicom has been promoting the development of reconfigurable intelligent of surface (RIS) requirement, scenarios, technology innovation, system development, test, standardization and ecological construction. China Unicom has developed RIS 3.5G and MMwave prototype system and simulation platform since 2020. And technologies, such as RIS channel model establision, channel estimation and beamforming are studied and tested. China Unicom cooperated with parters to establish RIS techonology alliance (RISTA) in April 2022. We participate actively in IMT-2030 RIS Group for technology reseach and discussion and test verification. And we also promote standarization of RIS and related technologies in CCSA and 3GPP. In the future, China Unicom will continue to promote RIS basical research, standarization and industrial application to enhance the transformation of original technology. And we decide to create a good ecological environment conducive to the development of original technology and make our contribution for prosperous digital economy.
RIS TECH Forum Online Preview 4:RIS Rings of ZTE.
Introduction: ZTE is the industry’s first to launch and verify the RIS wings solution explore whether RIS can improve the overall cell capacity. In this solution, two RIS boards are installed on both sides of the Sub-6GHz commercial AAU and unfolded at a certain angle, shaped like wings. The performance of RIS wings is verified through CQT and DT test. In the CQT test, three test points near, middle, and far in the cell were selected to test the UE’s signal coverage and uplink and downlink throughput when the RIS wings are closed and open respectively. The test results show that when the RIS wings are open, there are gains at all three test points. The average downlink rate is increased by up to 15%, and the average uplink rate is increased by up to 100%. To fully evaluate the improvement of cell average throughput DT tests were performed with RIS wings closed and open respectively. The test results show that, when the RIS wings are open the average downlink rate is increased by 5.8%, and the average uplink rate is increased by 8.3%. Based on the above test results ZTE believes that RIS wings can improve the overall cell capacity in outdoor Line-of-sight scenarios, such as squares, stadiums in urban areas, and suburban or rural areas.
RIS TECH Forum Online Preview 5:Huazhong University of Sicence and Technology:5.8GHz RIS-aided communication system.
Introduction: The video shows the 5.8GHz RIS-aided communication system developed by Huazhong University of Science and Technology, which can realize adaptive beamforming. When the RIS is turned off, the power of the received signal is very low, and the data rate is close to zero. After turning on the RIS, the received power is increased by 28 dB, and the data rate reaches 45 Mbps.
RIS TECH Forum Online Preview 6:RIS Demo from Prof. Long Li’s group from Xidian University.
Introduction: Prof. Long Li’s group from Xidian University has achieved a series of fundamental and systematic research findings in the field of frontier electromagnetic theory, metasurface devices, and systems. Combined with the need for high-power transmission, the group develops the world’s first simultaneous wireless information and power transfer prototype with active power amplification. For the first time, a tensor-holographic metasurface energy-carrying communication system with a polarized arbitrary energy ratio is realized. A monopole radar system based on digital metasurface is designed and developed for target detection and real-time tracking. The kilowatt-level wireless energy harvesting metasurface is developed, which has reached the world’s advanced level. For the first time, an adaptively smart wireless power transfer system is proposed to realize real-time and active electromagnetic energy-focusing transmission. Aiming at the communication scenarios in complex interference environments, a metasurface-based vortex wave anti-interference prototype is developed.
